Islamic Studies: Grade 12

You’ll develop the cultural awareness and critical thinking skills you need to analyze and produce a broad range of discourse in a full spectrum of careers — and to make a difference in whatever you do.

Overview

The final year of IS-4 and of the Islamic Studies track, following Islamic Studies: Grade 11. Grade 12 is the year the student stops being taught fiqh and starts using it.

The through-line is that they are about to leave a house where the questions were answered for them. Every unit asks what they will do when nobody else is deciding.

Units

  • The Adult Muslim — what became obligatory at bulugh, reviewed as a whole
  • Food and Slaughter — dhabihah, udhiyah, aqiqah, and eating outside the house
  • Contemporary Questions — medicine, technology, and work nobody had rulings for
  • Living Among Others — being a Muslim in a non-Muslim society
  • Dawah — explaining Islam without arguing about it
  • Capstone — a personal fiqh handbook

Builds on: the whole track. The capstone asks the student to write, in their own words and with evidence, the rulings they actually live by — which is the same shape as the Duʿa Grade 12 personal ʿibadah plan, and the two should be built to sit together.

Lessons are shells. Titles, unit placement and cross-references are built; the lesson content is not yet written.
