The year the script joins up. Students learn the madd letters, the leen letters, sukoon and shaddah, then the special letter rules — laam shamsiyyah and qamariyyah, the laam in the name of Allah, and the qalqalah letters.
Benchmark by the end of the year: reads connected Arabic script with all diacritical marks.
